Mineflower

Deep inside the mines, hidden in cracks, concealed from others, there are mineflowers. If someone were to bring them up to the surface… they would begin to shine.

A decaying mining settlement in Transylvania, where one can no longer descend into the shafts, only into the depths of pálinka bottles. Iván tends to his invisible father amid the ruins of his abducted dreams; Mihály, the doctor, measures hopelessness through an alcoholic haze; and the village slowly dwindles away at the ends of ropes tied to the trees of the forest.

Mineflower is an acidly ironic tragicomedy about social deprivation. Székely Csaba reveals the true face of the szekler idyll: a world where the surreal pain of folk ballads no longer takes shape in flowers, but in ruthless suicide statistics.
